Destination: Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale offers USITT many opportunities that other cities can’t offer.
USITT has only been to Florida once in its 58 years: 1984 in Orlando. It was a conference that was held in a hotel back then. This is an opportunity to reach the local technicians in the southeast, Caribbean, and Central/South America. Many of our exhibiting companies have offices in and around the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area including Chauvet Professional, Robe Lighting, ChamSys, and Gear Source, to name just a few.
Fort Lauderdale/Miami also serves as a major port and home of the cruise line industry. In fact, the Broward County Convention Center is located on the Fort Lauderdale port. Each day of USITT you’ll see ships coming and going; taking thousands of guests to their vacation destinations. Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Celebrity all have headquarter offices and training facilities in the area.
Florida also has one of the largest concentrations of megachurches in America. According to Church Production Magazine, FL represents the 5th largest segment of houses of worship in the US. These churches offer services that rival many theatrical productions for their design and use. USITT will offer opportunities for house of worship technicians to see the equipment and services offered on the Stage Expo floor as well as the training opportunities in the conference, workshops and demos.
The Themed Entertainment Industry, to no one’s surprise, has a very large concentration in Central Florida. Just three hours away you’ll find Disney World, Seaworld, Universal Studios and other parks.
Typical weather in Fort Lauderdale in mid March is 79 degrees fahrenheit with lots of sun. Precipitation is near its lowest for the entire year. You’ll be able to visit the beaches just 2 miles away during downtime and for evening dinners.
Ease of Travel
Fort Lauderdale is easily accessed by 3 major airports: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Miami International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport. These airports all offer direct flights from all over the world. Discount airlines like Southwest and Jet Blue both fly directly to Fort Lauderdale; non-stop from many cities.
